Vilafonté Napa Valley lot attracts highest bid at Cape Wine Auction

HAVING RAISED over R17-million from the charitably-minded who attended the 2020 edition of The Cape Wine Auction at Boschendal in Franschhoek, the event increased the total amount raised since the inaugural sale in 2014 at Delaire Graff in Stellenbosch to over R100-million. Sponsored by Nedbank Private Wealth, the glamorous celebration of Wine South Africa unites the industry with the philanthropic goal of supporting education for needy children in the Cape winelands.

Amongst the lots bought at the 2020 auction, the following were directly linked to top SA wine brands or areas of the Cape winelands:

• The Vilafonté Napa Valley Wine Auction experience in California, USA, went for R1.1m (as did a seven-day sailing expedition for eight in Indonesia, and three works by sculptor Anton Smit)
• The Benguerra Island (Mozambique) experience courtesy of DeMorgenzon and Azura Retreats went for R500K
• The De Toren Royal Malewane, Silo and La Residence experience went for R500K
• The Meerlust Natural Selection lot went for R500K
• The Franschhoek experience courtesy of Leeu Family Wines and Mullineux Wines  went for R400K
• The River Bend Lodge Warwick Wines safari experience went for R400K
• The eco-stay amid Creation vineyards and involving the Grootbos Nature Reserve, a Dyer Island Conservation Trust boat experience and a Glamtrails hike went for R340K
• A bottle of each of the 125 wines awarded 5 Stars in the 2020 edition of Platter’s SA Wine Guide and business-class air-tickets to the USA courtesy of Delta Airlines went for R240K
• Hedonistic getaway and party at Holden Manz went for R220K
• The Quoin Rock Manor House experience went for R200K
• The Rupert & Rothschild French Alps experience went for R200K
• The Lanzerac experience went for R180K
• The Boschendal Mountain Villa luxury weekend went for R175K
• The Paris to Franschhoek experience with Rickety Bridge went for R140K
• The Epicurean Saxon experience went for R125K
• The four-night long weekend for 10 in the Robertson Wine Valley went for R120K
• The gastranomic experience in Franschhoek courtesy of La Motte, La Residence, Haute Cabriere, Leopard’s Leap, Le Lude and Chefs Warehouse at Maison went for R110K
• The Constantia experience went for R80K
