Sadie, KC and Kanonkop star in fine wine auction involving 10-year-olds

AT STRAUSS & Co’s 27 September 2021 fine wine auction of 10-year-olds, the Sadie Family of the Swartland, Klein Constantia as well as the Stellenbosch cellars of Kanonkop, Vilafonté and Glenelly stood out as those fetching more than R2000 a bottle. Bidding for the red blend Keet First Verse and the Reserve Cab from Le Riche stopped just short of R2K a bottle. However many might well have been surprised that neither the Shiraz from the Cederberg Private Cellar nor the Stellenbosch Cabs of Rustenberg (Peter Barlow) and Meerlust could fetch more than R1K a bottle.

No doubt Delaire Graff were disappointed that their 2011 Laurence Graff Reserve (Cab) couldn’t attract the minimum asking price of R4K a bottle, which was what the current-release 2015 was selling for at the wine tasting lounge on the estate. Whereas Eben Sadie had litttle trouble getting over R4000pb for his 2011 Columella and Palladius blends.

These were the highlights regarding the South African items on an auction that also featured 10-year-old wines from Europe. For the full results of the online sale, click here.
