The white blend under the Constantia Glen Two label from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon is one of the Top 10 in the SA Wine Classification, and the single-varietal version of their SB has been grabbing plenty of attention in recent years – the 2017 awarded a gold medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (UK) and rated 5 Stars in Platter’s SA Wine Guide, the 2018 awarded a trophy at the International Wine Challenge (UK) and the 2020 Highly Recommended in Platter’s before the latest accolade for the 2021.

This from what might well have become the most popular destination on the Constantia Wine Route!

CONSTANTIA GLEN SAUVIGNON BLANC 2021
WO Constantia (Glen). 97% Sauvignon Blanc, 3% Semillon. Hand-harvesting. After crushing, grapes left to soak on the skins for 12 to 24 hours before pressing. Unwooded: cool-fermentation in stainless-stell tanks at 14 deg C. Matured on the lees (spend yeast) for five months.
Acl 13.5 | RS 1.8 | TA 7.3 | pH 3.16
Decanter’s Tasting Note: A vibrant nose with aromas of lemon, kiwi, elderflower, green jalapeno, capsicum, and a toasty, smoky top note. The palate shows a taut crisp vivacity and a light flinty nuance to the grenadilla, mango, gooseberry and blackcurrant leaf flavours.
Producer’s Tasting Note: Straw-like; light green hue. Initial aromas of lemongrass and lime lead to gooseberry and white peach. Final bouquet of blackcurrant, citrus and elderflower. Concentraed aromatcs integrate with a vibrant acdity and textured mouthfeel. On the palate, excellent fruit concentration and long-lasting freshness. Extended lees contact and splash of Semillon gives this wine great texture and length. A pleasure to enjoy in its youth, yet will benefit from five to eight years of ageing under ideal cellaring conditions.
Producer’s Pairing Sugestion: Asparagus with pancetta and dill mayonnaise. Beetroot and goats cheese salad. Pan-seared scallops with wasabi lime granita.
R195pb ex-cellar.
