Comin around again… Over R56K bid for Vin de Constance ’86

NOT A RECORD price for the 1986 Vin de Constance, but pretty darn close! The R56K+ (US$3098) fetched for a bottle during the August '24 Cape Heritage Auction conducted by Strauss & Co was marginally below the highest price ever fetched for a 500ml bottle of the sweet Muscat from the Cape winelands' Klein Constantia estate – R58 625 having been paid for a bottle of the same auctioned earlier in the year. Top price paid for a bottle of red was R32 830 for the mysterious GS Cab 1966 (exact origin of the grapes unconfirmed), and the most in-demand white wine on sale this time round was the 2012 Alheit Radio Lazarus Chenin that fetched R4104pb (Stellenbosch grapes, Hemel-en-Aarde cellar).

For info about the South African wines on sale that fetched over R4000 a bottle, see below – prices include buyer's premium and VAT. For all of the record prices paid for wines of South Africa, click here, and for the full results of this auction, click here.
