THREE CAPE wine farm restaurants have retained their rankings among THE most highly rated establishments in the annual JHP Gourmet Guide to South Africa's best fine-dining destinations, with 13 more making the cut for the Top 50. In the 2025 edition of the online publication, as per the 2024 edition, Chefs Warehouse Beau Constantia, La Colombe of Silvermist at Constantia Nek and La Petite Colombe at Leeu Estates in Franschhoek rub shoulders with FYN, Pier and Salsify in Cape Town as well as Klein Jan on the Tswalu Kalahari game reserve in the Northern Cape – FYN and La Colombe described as ‘globally iconic' and rated the top two restaurants in the country.
The ‘plate' ratings in the guide are “based on a series of anonymous reviews from experienced international industry professionals who give of their time and expertise freely” – one plate for “excellent cuisine”, two plates for “exceptional dining that demands a detour”, and three plates for “world-class destination dining worthy of a flight”. See below for the most highly rated wine farm restaurants according to the guide, i.e. those next to a winery, and for all the top-rated restaurants across the length and breadth of the country, click here.
The 2025 edition of South Africa's other leading restaurant guide, the Eat Out Awards, is scheduled for 31 March 2025.
