Special Discoveries from across the Cape winelands

Every three months, members of Caroline’s Quarterly Wine Club look forward to more new discoveries from top South African producers. “Wine lovers can sit back and have our fine selections delivered wherever you are in the country,” says Caroline Rillema of Caroline’s Fine Wine Cellar in Cape Town. “We select the finest wines. Simply choose one or more of the quarterly packages and you’ll receive a different selection every three months for as long as you wish. Hassle free!”

The 12-bottle selection of Special Discoveries on offer to club members at R2350 until the end of March 2025 includes the following × 2:
Dawn Patrol Sauvignon Blanc 2024
Accomplished vigneron and keen surfer Trizanne Barnard of Kommetjie celebrates the ritual of rising early to find the days’s perfect swell. After fermentation, the grapes were left on the lees for a few months before blending. Vibrant nose of green apple, gooseberry and ripe peach with a subtle minerality and a long, dry finish with refreshing acidity. An ideal partner for any fresh fish dish. R150pb.
Rickety Bridge Foundation Stone Blend 2023
Commemorating the Franschhoek property being granted to Paulina De Villiers in 1797. A blend of Marsanne (40%), Chenin Blanc (36%), Roussanne (9%), Grenache Blanc (8%) and Viognier (7%). Grapes hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed and naturally fermented (wild yeast) in old 500L French oak barrels as well as concrete tanks. Spring blossom, restrained peach, mango and stone fruit on the nose; a rich wine that finishes with elegance and freshness. Serve with Asian-influenced chicken and seafood, goats cheese salad or pork stir-fry. R167pb.
Oldenburg CLº White 2023
From a beautiful corner of the Banghoek Valley in Stellenbosch, a blend of Chenin Blanc (58%) and Chardonnay (42%) for which winemaker Nic van Aarde used barrels, foudre and concrete eggs. Lively acidity that carries flavours of lemongrass, complemented by a gentle grapefruit pithinss. Round mouthfeel with a long, clean finish. Pairs particularly well with fried calamari or roast chicken. R209pb.
Zorgvliet Cabernet Franc 2021
Owned by the Van der Merwe family since 2002, the estate is a gem in the Banghoek Valley of Stellenbosch, where Bernard le Roux has made wine for the past 21 years. The Cab Franc has a black-ruby colour, with a deep aroma and flavour of plums, herbs and red capsicum. Excellent wood integration – small French oak barrels, 13% new. Perfect match for a medium-rare cut of beef with red wine jus, or a charcuterie platter. Great now with food or lay down at under 18ºC until 2029. R233pb.
Fairview Caldera 2022
From the estate of Charles Back on the south-western slopes of Paarl Rock mountain, a Rhône-style red blend that winemaker (since 1996) Anthony de Jager excels at. Grenache Noir, Shiraz, Mourvédre and Cinsault, honed for nine months in seasoned oak for a smooth, refined structure with spice and lift. Delicious until 2030, at least. Five Stars in Platter’s 2025 SA Wine Guide. Super match for beef picanha or grilled pork or chicken kebabs. R221pb.
The Brigadier Pinot Noir 2022
From the team at Snow Mountain Wines, Western Cape, named after a senior military officer who changed roles due to his love of wine. A delicious Pinot with hints of Ceylon tea, savoury cherry and a long, dry finish. R195pb.
