FOR STATISTICS supplied by the South African wine industry body SAWIS, click here. For stats from the OIV representing all of the major wine-producing countries around the globe, see below.
ACCORDING to statistics provided in April 2025 (using 2024 data) by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) based in Dijon, France, the area under vine (for wine and table grapes) throughout the world was estimated at 7.1-million hectares – the fourth consecutive year of shrinking vineyard plantings globally. Total wine production was estimated at 226-million hectolitres, the lowest since 1961 at 214 mhl – down from 237mhl in 2023, 258mhl in 2022, 260mhl in 2021 and 263mhl in 2020, with 250mhl in 2017 following three years of drought having previously been the lowest in the 21st century to date.
