These are the producers whose wines are stocked on a regular basis at Wolfgat in the fishing village of Paternoster on the Strandveld of South Africa’s West Coast – in the order given by chef Kobus van der Merwe, whose unique dining experience was honoured as overall winner at the inaugural World Restaurant Awards in Paris. “Because of the nature of our west-coast-focused menu, we also only serve wines from our closest regions, namely WO Swartland and WO Olifants Rivier.” (The places given next to the producers’ names are where their cellars are located).

“The succinct list changes quite regularly to suit the changing menu,” says Van der Merwe. “We offer about ten whites, six reds, three MCC’s, etc, covering a wide range of styles and including some alternative whites and orange wines.”

Wolfgat offers a seasonal, seven-course tasting menu at R850 per person, with an optional drinks pairing at R550pp – by appointment only, with a maximum of 20 diners per sitting.

The restaurant opened in 2017, and in 2018 Van der Merwe won the title of Chef of the Year at the annual Eat Out Awards.
