Cool-climate Sauvignon selling at a cool price for a wine of this class

ANNI is the third daughter of Vrede en Lust owner Dana Buys, her namesake a rather impressive Sauvignon Blanc. From Casey’s Ridge, the family’s farm in Elgin, the grapes are taken to the cellar on their estate in Simondium at the foot of the Simonsberg, Paarl. And what emerges in bottle, adorned with a dove, is an unwooded beauty of international repute.

When barely a year old, the current-release 2019 vintage won gold at the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon hosted in the Loire Valley, France. Just a few months later at South Africa’s National Wine Challenge (NWC), it was scored top of the class before going on to be applauded as one of the Top 3 white wines overall. This after the 2017 had placed among the Top 100 at NWC 2019 and earlier vintages had excelled at the Top 10 competition convened by Sauvignon Blanc SA as well as in the annual category overview by South Africa’s Wine Magazine. And still it’s available. Still at under R100 a bottle!
