Prices updated, availability checked… Top SA wines under R120

SJOE! The Trophy Wine Show got it so right when they honoured the 2019 Thokozani Cabernet Franc as Discovery of the Show in 2022. Best value gold medallist in South Africa’s premier wine competition, open to wines of all categories, this beauty from the Diemersfontein cellar in Wellington was also top of its class at the National Wine Challenge (SA) and went on to earn double gold at the Global Fine Wine Challenge in Sydney, Australia. As to be expected, of course – at R115pb – it wasn’t long before the ‘sold out’ signs went up. However, there are still bargains to be had – despite the time elapsed, and despite the latest round of price increases.

Many cellars in the Cape winelands effect their annual general price adjustments at the beginning of March. Consequently, all of the rand-per-bottle figures alongside those wines that achieved Top Ratings over the past year have been updated. And yet, there is still plenty to choose from if you’re looking for good value at Under R120. The following are half a dozen of the standouts.
