CONCOURS MONDIAL is based in Brussels, Belgium, however the mammoth competition is staged in various locations with the different types of wine judged at different times of the year. In May 2023, over 300 industry experts from around the world converged on the coastal town of Porec in western Croatia to assess over 7500 red and white wines from nearly 50 countries in panel tastings over several days. Award winners included not only long-standing producer nations but also India, winning their first medal at this competition, as well as Kazakhstan and Albania. Bordeaux, France, was the most awarded region on the planet. Portugal, Aragon (Spain) and Tuscany (Italy) also excelled.
South Africa's most admired wines on show were 2020 Cabernet Sauvignons from the Cederberg and Kleine Zalze of Stellenbosch – both grand gold medal winners with exceptional track records, the Cederberg Cab going on to be named one of 19 ‘Revelations' (tantamount to trophy laureates). Moreover, there were 26 gold medals awarded to wines of the Cape:
