ONCE AGAIN the food critics have spoken – those whose votes count towards South Africa's JHP Gourmet Guide. And once again, La Colombe at Silvermist on Constantia Nek is their choice as the top-rated restaurant in the Cape winelands, i.e. on the farms, among the vines, as well as one of the three most highly rated restaurants in the country as a whole – the others being FYN at Speakers' Corner on Parliament Street in Cape Town and Salsify at The Roundhouse in Camps Bay, Cape Town.
According to the 2026 edition of the fine-dining guide, published in October 2025, the country's Top 50 restaurants include 14 alongside wineries and vineyards – seven in Stellenbosch and Somerset West, three in Constantia, two in Franschhoek, one in Paarl, one in the Hemel-en-Aarde – and a number of others in the CBDs of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Cape Town.
