IN THE LAST of the world's major wine competitions of the year, Boschendal (Franschhoek) and Groot Constantia (Cape Town) scooped two of the top trophies going – Boschendal Elgin Chardonnay 2018 named top South African White Wine and Groot Constantia Sauvignon Blanc 2019 judged best Sauvignon Blanc. Period. This was the first time in 10 years that the top Sauvignon at the International Wine Challenge (UK) wasn't from either New Zealand or the Loire, France, and the two South Africans were among 30 wines from 14 countries praised as the most outstanding overall.
And that's not all! There were two other trophy winners from the Cape, with DeMorgenzon of Stellenbosch Kloof winning for both their Reserve Chenin Blanc 2019 and their Maestro White 2018. Plus, there were 14 gold medallists – as per below.
