Constantia has lovely Sauvignon, but a whole lot more besides

ALMOST EVERYBODY who’s anybody in the vineyards of Constantia was on the billboard of exhibitors expected to be serving their Sauvignon to wine lovers at Workshop 47 in Rosebank JHB in the first of two evening events this May. The notable no-show being Constantia Uitsig, an estate that’s not a member of the local wine route although one of THE destinations along the way featuring two restaurants and five deli/takeaway attractions in addition to their wine shop.

‘The Constantia Showcase‘ on the Southern Sun hotel rooftop in the Hyde Park suburb of Johannesburg later in the month promised a range of wines from the producers in an area where they’re really good at sweet Muscat, red and white blends as well as Cap Classique bubbly, and where for a while now they’ve given pride of place to Sauvignon Blanc as a wine route within a wine route. The theme of the Rosebank show: ‘Serious About Sauvignon’, with those having the best track records over the past 10 years including Constantia Glen, Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia and the Black Swan of Steenberg in Tokai.
