Vonkel at Simonsig: sparkling new restaurant in Stellenbosch

IT'S BACK! Reinvented, under a different name… The popular Cuvée restaurant that closed some years ago has been replaced with Vonkel (‘Sparkle'), open daily from 9am to 5pm at Simonsig Family Vineyards in Koelenhof, Stellenbosch, serving “brunch and lunch with a menu built around fresh, seasonal ingredients, quality provenance and food designed to pair beautifully with Simonsig wines.” Handmade pasta, sharing boards and sourdough Neapolitan pizzas from the wood-fired oven, all served either with the estate's Cap Classique bubblies or with the estate's reds and whites – the restaurant taking its name from Kaapse Vonkel, South Africa's first sparkling wine made according to the traditional method for which Champagne is famous.

“The Med done right – pizza, pasta, bruschetta, tartare – is the anchor at the restaurant, but it’s complemented with a fun and unfussy selection of café favourites…”
