KASTEELBERG Premium Chenin Blanc 2024 from the Riebeek Valley Wine Company in the Swartland town of Riebeek Kasteel. Winner of a Grand Master award at the 2026 Global Chenin Blanc Masters in London. Best of the Master award winners (scored 97+) in a competition dominated by South African wines, which also included 13 Gold Medal winners (scored 93 to 96 points).
The panel of judges included Masters of Wine Patricia Stefanowicz, Neil Sommerfelt and Jonathan Pedley, together with Roebuck's business development manager Andrea Briccarello. In her tasting report for the Drinks Business magazine, Stefanowicz had this to say of the Grand Master laureate: “The Kasteelberg Mountain acts a sentinel over the Riebeek Valley, moderating the macro-climate by casting rain shadows and channelling winter rains… This wine is certainly a worthy icon. Pale gold-coloured, the wine displays intense mango and passionfruit with smoky-toasty oak… Ripe, vibrant fruit on the palate is framed by crisp acidity and accented by spice and nuts. Elegant, sophisticated and lingering, this is a wine to pair with a sumptuous Lobster Thermidor.”
