Tokara Reserve Elgin Sauvignon Blanc a perennial favourite

UNWOODED, scored 95/100 at the Decanter World Wine Awards and 95 points at the International Wine & Spirit Competition, the 2024 Tokara Reserve Elgin Sauvignon Blanc is one of South Africa's most highly rated SBs in 2025. And a great track record across multiple vintages: one of the Top 5 in the SA Sauvignon Blanc Classification spanning the past 10 years. Kudos to proprietor GT Ferreira and his team.

Tokara's Highlands farm in Elgin is just 7km from the Atlantic coast, 415m above sea level with frequent cloud cover and average temperatures 4°C cooler than those at Tokara's Stellenbosch property. The Highlands Sauvignon Blanc grapes ripen between mid- and end-March, six weeks later than those at Tokara's Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in Stellenbosch.

TOKARA RESERVE ELGIN SAUVIGNON BLANC 2024
WO Elgin: grapes from the best blocks on Tokara's Highlands farm, harvested at optimum flavour ripeness, hand-picked at dawn. Bunches cooled and transported in a closed truck to the winery on Helshoogte Pass in Stellenbosch. Grapes destemmed and crushed. Inert press. After settling and racking, free-run juice fermented at 18°C in stainless-steel tanks using cultivated yeast, sulphured and kept on the lees/sediment for nine months with regular stirring before stabilisation, filtration and bottling.
Alc 13 | RS 4.7 | TA 6.6 | pH 3.2
Producer's Tasting Notes: Pale straw colour with brilliant green edge. On the nose, lime blossom and passion fruit, evolving to incorporate a complex mélange of lemongrass, blackcurrant leaf and sweet greengage. The palate is refreshing…
Pairing Suggestions: oysters, or fresh grilled yellowtail with salsa verde, or salmon roses with mayo (and caviar?!)
