IT'S GOODBYE to the Longtable restaurant at Haskell Vineyards and hello to Stellenbosch Reserve – for lunch (Tue-Sun) and dinner (Thu-Sat), classy yet casual, and a tasting room offering wines from the ‘Stellenbosch Collection'. Think pizza and chicken from the rotisserie, but also a lamb dish, beef fillet, pan-seared fish… On the the winelist and in the tasting room: the Stellenbosch Reserve and Afrikaans ranges as well as Cirrus Pinot Noir, all now from the winery on the property, plus the Donkiesbaai whites and reds from the Guardian Peak cellar.
There are still some Haskell wines available at the restaurant, but Jean Engelbrecht, also the proprietor of Rust en Vrede and Guardian Peak up the road and across the way from Stellenbosch Reserve, has taken a long-term lease on the venue, the winery as well as the vineyards, which are in the process of being replanted. With tables inside and out, seating options at the Stellenbosch Reserve include a shaded flagstone patio where visitors can enjoy views of the countryside off the Annandale Road on the Helderberg wine route while sipping something interesting or contemplating the menu.
