Beyerskloof… Hall of Fame winery, good-value lunch for under R200

BEYERSKLOOF. Stellenbosch. Just outside the town on the R304 to the N1. Home to some of South Africa’s most highly rated Pinotages and Cape Blends over the past 10 years, as well as the Red Leaf Bistro. The Pinotage Burger goes for R155, the Pinotage Pizza for R165, perhaps accompanied by the Pinotage Reserve or the Traildust Cape Blend at R70 per glass. There’s also pasta and oxtail on the menu, as well as fish and chips at R150pp that you might enjoy with the Chenin Blanc / Pinotage or their Pinotage Rosé for R55pg.

Aside from fine dining – click here for the very best restaurants on the Cape’s wine farms – there are destinations along the country’s various wine routes that appeal both as producers of such consistently good drinks that they’re included in the Top Wine SA Hall of Fame, and as the setting for tables where you can lunch inside or out for quite a bit less than you might expect. Beyerskloof is such a place.
